How Blue Light Affects Your Body, Aging, and Toxin Exposure

What is Blue Light?
Blue light is a type of high-energy visible (HEV) light that has a short wavelength and high frequency. It’s naturally present in sunlight and helps regulate our circadian rhythm—our body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. However, artificial sources like screens, LED lights, and fluorescent lighting expose us to blue light far beyond what our ancestors experienced. And this excess exposure comes with consequences.
 

While blue light has some benefits, like boosting alertness during the day, long-term overexposure can accelerate aging. Here’s how:

Eye Strain and Vision Issues are accelerated: As we age, our eyes naturally lose some of their ability to block out blue light. Excess exposure can cause digital eye strain, fatigue, and even damage to the retina, which may lead to age-related macular degeneration.
 
It Disrupts Your Sleep Patterns: Blue light exposure, especially in the evening, suppresses melatonin production—the hormone responsible for regulating sleep.
