Your Body Has Changed—Has Your Wellness Routine?

Have you noticed that the things that worked beautifully for you 10, 20 or 30 years ago don't always seem to work the same way anymore?
Maybe your skin feels drier. Your digestion isn't quite as predictable. Bloating seems to happen more easily. You feel like your body needs more time to recover, and stress seems to linger a little longer.

Welcome to the reality of being a mature woman!
But here's the good news: getting older doesn't mean you have to stop feeling good in your body. It may simply mean it's time to become more intentional about how you care for yourself.
That's where I love incorporating a few simple, natural wellness tools into my daily routine—especially high-quality castor oil and carefully chosen essential oils.

You can find essential oils & diffusers on my Favorite Product & DIY Supplies page. I do receive a small commission that helps to support this website of information for you. Some items have extra savings for you as well, so take a look around.

Why Castor Oil Is Getting So Much Attention

Castor oil isn't new. It has been used for generations in beauty and personal-care routines.
And there's a reason I think mature women should take a closer look at it.
As we age, our skin often becomes drier and can benefit from richer, more nourishing moisture. doTERRA Castor Oil is rich in ricinoleic acid and is designed to nourish and moisturize the skin and hair. It's also a versatile carrier oil that can be incorporated into topical essential-oil routines.

A few of my favorite ways to use castor oil:
For mature, dry skin
Apply a small amount to your face, neck, hands, elbows, heels or other dry areas. A little goes a long way.
For a nourishing nighttime ritual
Add a few drops to your evening skincare routine and gently massage it into your face and neck.
For your scalp and hair
Castor oil can be massaged into the scalp as part of a nourishing hair-care routine. Use it with Rosemary and Peppermint essential oils for even more support for healthy-looking hair and scalp
For a castor oil pack routine
Castor oil can also be used as part of a topical castor-oil-pack protocol. If this is something you're considering, especially if you have a medical condition or take medications, it's wise to discuss it with your healthcare professional first.

But Here's Something Important: Not All Oils Are Created Equal

This is one of the biggest things I want everyone to understand.
When I say "castor oil" or "essential oil," that doesn't automatically mean every bottle is the same.

Quality matters.
  • How was it grown?
  • How was it harvested?
  • How was it processed?
  • Was it diluted or altered?
  • How was it tested and packaged?
For something you're intentionally incorporating into your personal-care and wellness routines, I believe quality and purity are worth paying attention to.

For example, doTERRA describes its Castor Oil as certified organic, cold-pressed, hexane-free and rich in ricinoleic acid. It's packaged in amber glass to help protect the oil.

The same principle applies to essential oils.

I don't believe you should simply grab the cheapest bottle on the shelf and assume it's interchangeable with a carefully sourced, tested product.
You deserve to know what's in the bottle.

What About That Mature-Woman Belly?

Let's talk about something many women experience but don't always talk about:
Bloating and digestive discomfort.
That uncomfortable, overly-full feeling can be frustrating—especially when it seems to show up after meals, while traveling or at the most inconvenient times.
One of my go-to oils for occasional digestive discomfort is DigestZen®.
DigestZen is a carefully formulated blend of Peppermint, Ginger, Cardamom, Caraway, Anise, Coriander and Fennel essential oils. doTERRA specifically formulates it to support healthy digestion and soothe occasional stomach discomfort.

Simple Ways to Use DigestZen
🌿 Tummy Massage
Dilute DigestZen with Fractionated Coconut Oil and gently massage your abdomen.
🌿 Keep It With You
Traveling? Keep DigestZen nearby for those times when your stomach isn't feeling its best. (On more than one occasion I've shared it with grandchildren who had upset tummys)
🌿 After a Big Meal
A gentle abdominal massage with diluted DigestZen can be a comforting part of your after-meal routine.
🌿 DigestZen Touch
If you prefer something already diluted and convenient, DigestZen Touch combines the blend with Fractionated Coconut Oil for topical use.

For internal use, always follow the directions on the specific product you're using. Not every essential oil product is intended for internal use.

Supporting Your Body's Natural Detox Processes

Another area that becomes increasingly important as we age is supporting the body's natural processes for elimination and detoxification.

Our bodies already have sophisticated systems for processing and eliminating unwanted substances. The goal isn't to "force" a detox but to support healthy habits that help those systems do their jobs.

This is where I like to think about creating a simple daily rhythm:
  • Hydrate.
  • Move your body.
  • Support healthy digestion.
  • Eat nourishing foods.
  • Get adequate rest.
  • And use supportive wellness tools when appropriate.
Certain essential oils can become part of that routine. For example, oils and blends traditionally used in wellness routines may be incorporated aromatically or topically as part of a relaxing self-care ritual.

And here's another reason I love castor oil: it can become part of a topical self-care routine, including massage and castor-oil-pack protocols.

It's not about finding one magic oil.
It's about creating small, consistent habits that support the woman you are today.

Don't Forget Your Nervous System

And then there's the piece we sometimes overlook:
How are you feeling emotionally?

Mature women often carry a LOT.
Family responsibilities. Work. Aging parents. Adult children. Grandchildren. Changes in our bodies. Changes in our roles. And sometimes simply the realization that life doesn't look quite like we expected it to.

That's why I also keep calming and soothing essential oils in my wellness toolbox.
LavenderFrankincenseBergamotAdaptiv® and other calming oils can be wonderful additions to an evening wind-down routine.
Try:
🌿 Diffusing a calming blend before bed
🌿 Applying a properly diluted oil to your wrists or neck
🌿 Adding a few drops to your favorite carrier oil for a relaxing massage
🌿 Taking several slow breaths while inhaling an aromatic blend
🌿 Creating a few quiet minutes each evening that are just for YOU

Sometimes restoration doesn't have to be complicated.

Sometimes it's simply stopping long enough to breathe.

Restore Instead of Just "Fix"

Maybe that's the biggest lesson I've learned.
As mature women, we don't need to spend our days trying to "fix" everything that's different about us.

We can nourish.
We can support.
We can soothe.
We can restore.

And we can become more intentional about what we put on our skin, what we breathe into our homes and what we use as part of our daily self-care routines.

So if you're looking at your wellness routine and thinking, "I want to feel better, care for my skin and body, and simplify things as I get older," start small.

  • Choose quality products.
  • Learn how to use them properly.
  • Listen to your body.
  • And create simple rituals that make you feel cared for.

Because growing older isn't about doing less for yourself.

It's about learning what your body needs now—and giving it the care it deserves.
