• Hot Apple Cider with Essential Oils

This time of the year with the cool crispness in the air, I find myself yearning for Hot Apple Cider. Not only does it taste wonderful to me, I also love the aroma that fills my home.

Over the years I have tried many combinations of spices all tied up in my little cheesecloth bundle, but this year, well I decided to just use essential oils. After all, I have had such great results when using them in recipes so why shouldn’t this be any different. OH MY! Yes it was different – the BEST Apple Cider I have ever made!!! Or mix I have ever bought!!!

Why didn’t I try this before? I don’t know, but I’ll never go back to the little spice bundles. Try this recipe for yourself and see if you don’t agree. Leave me a comment on what you think.

  • DIY: All Purpose Spray Natural Cleaner

Have you ever read the cleaning directions on most All Purpose Cleaners? Years ago I did and was very disappointed to see that after I used the cleaner I needed to go back and wipe everything down again if used on an eating surface. If you have small children or pets, well that means EVERYTHING has to be re-wiped! Why? because of the ingredients in the cleaner aren’t safe for consumption. This started my journey of in search of a natural cleaner. I came up with a cleaner containing water, vinegar and elbow grease. Fortunately a few years ago when I started using essential oils, there was mention of using Lemon essential oil Essential aroma oil with lemon and mint on wooden background. Selective focus.because of its ability to clean and purify surfaces, it helps ward off free radical with its antioxidant benefits AND it promotes a positive mood and cognitive ability. Not to mention it smells wonderful! Sooo… I decided to add some to my water and vinegar solutions and what I found was that the combination worked so much better that I seldom need to apply any elbow grease! Course the drawback was that I needed to find another workout to keep jiggly arms at bay. Oh, I should mention that I have been saving lots & lots of money too!

Here is the basic recipe along with a list of other essential oils you might want to try:

    What You Need:

    • Add all ingredients to spray bottle.
    • Shake thoroughly before using (remember oil & water separate)

    Essential Oil Suggestions:

15 drops each of Lavender and Lemon

10 drops each of Eucalyptus, Peppermint, and Wild Orange

30 drops OnGuard®, the Protective blend (My Favorite)

15 drops each of Grapefruit and OnGuard, the Protective

    Essential oil with orange peel

  • My Natural Bug Repellent

My fun summertime activities also means hungry bugs and mosquitoes are just waiting to take a bite of me! I just dreaded putting on the bug replants knowing they are full of not-so-good for me chemicals and then there’s that awful smell! But what choice did I have, I am so allergic that I swell up like a balloon with each bite. Thankfully last summer I found a Natural bug repellent that actually worked and went without a bite all summer long. Now I use Repellent Blend (Get some HERE)

This blend combines highly effective and safe essential oils in a base of Fractionated Coconut Oil to help ward off insects. After all, the primary function of essential oils in plants is protecting themselves against insects and other predators. So using it, it protects me and I can use it on pets as well. Unlike other products that contain synthetic and toxic chemicals, the Repellant Blend is a natural approach to managing exposure to biting insects.

I love it’s fresh, light citrus scent is wonderfully invigorating and can be used safely by everyone in the family. One application provides coverage that lasts up to 6 hours.

Before going outside I apply it directly on to my legs, arms, and neck.

Some times I put it in a spray bottle with a little water to spray my plants (and me).

You can even put 3-4 drops in your diffuser on your patio to ward off those pesky insects.  Click HERE to check out the Spa Diffuser.

During this time of the year, I carry my natural bug repellent with me at all times. You just never know when the bugs will attack.

This year I’m going to rub or spray it around the door and window seals to deter insects from entering.

A word of caution for those with possible skin sensitivity, dilution may be needed. And as with everything keep out of reach of children we don’t want them over doing, it does smell that good.

  • DIY: Naturally Healthy Foam Soap

Being that we are now in the seasonal/environmental threats season you might be tempted to purchase an anti-bacterial soap the next time you are out shopping. I don’t recommend it.

After 42 year of FDA research as well as multiple independent studies, it’s revealed that these soaps, which contain triclosan, are no more effective than washing with plain old soap and water for just 30 seconds.

The FDA announced on Dec 16, 2013 that manufacturers have until 2016 to prove their products containing tricloan are more beneficial and safe. If they don’t, they will have to pull the products. Read the report HERE

Research is now going on as to whether:

    • Heavy use of antibacterial soaps may cause the creation of ‘Super-Bugs’, antibiotic-resistant bacteria (like the over use of antibiotics did).
    • These soaps could act as endocrine disruptors. (interfere with the body’s regulation of thyroid hormone for example).
    • Prolong exposure might cause development of allergies, especially in children.
    • These soaps are potentially bad for the environment.

This alone is enough for me to put on my “caution cap” and I haven’t even touched on the other additives and chemicals that have toxic potentials. There is also the cost of these special soaps to consider. This makes me so happy to making my own soap loaded with “Natural” health supporting properties.

Below is a recipe for a DIY: Naturally Healthy Foam Soap. There are many essential oils like Lemon, Lime, Wild Orange, Grapefruit which help promote a healthy immune system and cleanse and purify. I personally like using doTERRA OnGuard, Protective Blend. Because it is a blend of essential oils that

    • Supports healthy immune function
    • Protects against environmental threats
    • Cleans surfaces
    • Purifies the skin while promoting healthy circulation
    • Energizing, uplifting aroma

    DIY: Naturally Healthy Foam Soap

    • Pour castile soap and Fractionated Coconut Oil into bottle.
    • Add essential oils.
    • Slowly add water into bottle making sure to leave room for the foaming pump.
    • Add lid, shake, and you are good to go!
    • When ready to use, just pump 1-2 times into hands and wash with warm water.

There is no guarantee that washing your hands with essential oils will keep you from getting a bad bug.  But, since essential oils work to help to bring the body into balance – thus helping the body’s natural defenses to restore homeostasis, they just might help you overall.
